LaGuardia Airport:
Closest airport to Manhattan
City Bus and Subway: not as difficult as it sounds. Outside the terminals is a sign for the Q70Ltd bus. Take it to Jackson Heights stop (1st stop out of airport). Get on a subway to the part of town you want to go. I take the Blue E and it drops me off a block away. Hints...buy a metro card at the airport near baggage claim and lift your luggage over turnstile before going through. This method costs $2.50 since your transfer from bus to subway will be free.
NYC Airporter Bus: http://www.nycairporter.com/ These green and white buses run about every 30 minutes with first stop at Grand Central followed by Penn Station and Port Authority Bus Terminal. Round trip is $19, one way is $12.75. Rates change all the time as does the exact drop off spot.
Uber
Taxis: To Manhattan should run up to $35 not including tolls or tip. One fare should cover everyone in cab with 4 passenger limit/5 in minivans. There are taxi lines outside each terminal. If you fly into Delta D and the taxi line is long, walk over to C terminal.
Recommendation: If you are traveling solo, it is more reasonable to use the subway/bus or the air porter bus. If you don't have to wait long, it takes the same amount of time to get you to mid-town. Groups of three or more will save with a taxi. If you are a Groupon fan, there are often discounts for airport transportation on there.
JFK Airport:
Taxis: Flat rate of $45 into Manhattan (not including tip). Maximum 4 people per cab/5 if it is a minivan. One fare covers all passengers. Get into taxi line at airport.
NYCT Subway/JFK AirTrain Service John F. Kennedy Airport
Newark Liberty International Airport:
Air Train: Take the on-airport train to the Newark Liberty International Station (about 10 minute ride). To go to Penn Station you take NJ Transit ($12.50). It takes about 30 minutes. Does not run between 2 - 5 am.
Taxis: To Manhattan can run from $50-75 not including tolls and tips.
Recommendation: Air Train.
